So you’ve volunteered to host the holiday party at your condo this year, but now you’re wondering if your apartment can handle a house full of guests? Don’t stress! We’ve come up with a list of everything you’ll need to host the perfect party in your condo this holiday season.

Decorate Your Unit & Balcony!

No holiday party can begin without some festive cheer! Liven up your space this season with a myriad of decorations, without taking up valuable floor space.

In addition to your Christmas tree, spread the colours and textures of the holidays across your condo with seasonal wall decor, such as winter paintings or photographs; String garland on bookshelves or cabinets. Hang a wreath at your door; Or tie your space together with a holiday themed rug to spruce up your place without taking up space.

Don’t forget your balcony! Outdoor spaces are often overlooked in the winter months, but can provide ample space for all sorts of holiday decorations that’ll cheer you and everyone else up during the coldest months of the year. Read our recent blog to learn more about holiday balcony decor tips!

Make the night memorable for seasons to come by creating a theme or introducing an assortment of fun activities throughout the night for your guests to enjoy at their leisure. Hosting various games, themes and other activities is also a great way to break the ice if your guests don’t all know each other.

Some of our favourite Christmas party activity ideas include:

  • Sing your heart out with some Christmas karaoke
  • Host a gingerbread house-making contest.
  • Throw a casino Christmas night with the winnings donated to a charity of the winner’s choice.
  • Have guests flex their holiday knowledge with a Christmas movie trivia night.

There are also tons of themes for you to choose from. Missed the Halloween party? Have a Nightmare Before Christmas theme with costumes! You can also have guests wear their ugliest Christmas sweaters or tell them to dress up for the occasion with a Black Tie dress code. The only limit is your imagination, so have fun and get creative.

What’s A Party Without Food?

Nothing pairs quite like the holidays and delicious eats. Seasonal parties are no exception, but that doesn’t mean preparing food has to be difficult! Depending on the nature of your event, you can choose from plating smaller bites, to large feasts or evening going potluck-style.

Ask yourself what kind of food would be most appropriate for the nature of your party. Are you and your guests sitting down for an over-the-table feast? If this is the case, break out those traditional recipes for turkey or smoked ham (or whatever fits your theme).

If your guests are looking to mingle throughout the night, choose easy finger foods that won’t leave a mess. In general, avoid foods that are soupy or overly saucy - remember that you’re the one who’s going to be cleaning up the next morning!

If you’re trying to keep your budget to a minimum, consider hosting a potluck, where every guest brings their own unique dish to share with the others.

Make A Festive Playlist

What’s a party without music? For your holiday party playlist there are no shortage of Christmas songs for you to choose from, from Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, to Snoop Dogg & Nate Dogg’s “Santa Claus Goes Straight To The Ghetto.”

As always, think about your party theme and the atmosphere you want to set before coming up with your Christmas music playlist. If you don’t want to make your own custom playlist or simply don’t have time, there are an unlimited amount of pre-made Christmas playlists online to choose from.

Just try not to turn the dial up to 11, as your neighbours might not appreciate it.

Think About Parking

One of the last considerations to remember is parking! Planning your parking system ahead of time will lessen any complications and frustrations for your guests the night of the event.

Condos usually have parking only for residents, with very few visitor spaces. Plan in advance to figure out the best parking solutions for the night of your party. If you’re having difficulties finding the space to fit everyone, consider asking your guests to carpool!
